American comic book facts for kids
An American comic book is a thin book made in the United States that tells stories using comics (pictures with words). These books often feature superheroes, but they can also be about many other exciting topics.
Comic books first became popular in 1938. This was when a famous comic book called Action Comics was published. It introduced the world to the very first superhero, Superman!
After Superman appeared, many other superheroes became popular. This time, from 1938 until the end of World War II, is often called the "Golden Age" of comic books. After the war, even though superheroes were still well-known, comic book creators started making stories about other things. These included horror, crime, science fiction, and romance.
