The Ameriprise Financial Center is a very tall building, known as a skyscraper, located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It stands at 498 feet (152 meters) high and has 31 floors. This impressive building was finished in the year 2000. It was actually the tallest building completed in the United States that year!
About the Building
The Ameriprise Financial Center is special because it's the largest skyscraper in downtown Minneapolis used by just one company. This company is Ameriprise Financial. Their main offices moved into this building in April 2000. Before that, they were known as American Express Financial Advisors and were located in the IDS Tower.
Design and Features
The building's outside walls are made from a mix of glass and granite. These materials are put together in large sections, usually about 5 feet wide and 15 feet tall (1.5 by 4.6 meters). The building also uses aluminum framing, which helps hold the glass and granite in place.
One cool feature of the Ameriprise Financial Center is its skyway connections. These are enclosed walkways that let people walk between buildings without going outside. The Ameriprise building is connected to the Capella Tower, Baker Center, and Accenture Tower by these skyways.
Location and History
The Ameriprise Financial Center was built on the spot where an older building, called the Lutheran Brotherhood Building, used to stand. That old building was taken down to make room for this new skyscraper. In September 2016, the building was bought by a company called Morning Calm Management. They are a business that manages commercial real estate.
