History of Amesville
Amesville was officially planned and settled in 1837. The village got its name from two early landowners, Sylvanus and Nabby Lee Ames. A post office has been open in Amesville since 1820. This means people have been sending and receiving mail there for over 200 years!
Geography of Amesville
Amesville is located at 39°24′5″N 81°57′18″W / 39.40139°N 81.95500°W. It sits in the beautiful foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. The area around Amesville has many wooded hills, narrow valleys, and small creeks. You can also find lowland pastures and farmland nearby.
The village is about 45 miles south of a special land feature called a "terminal moraine." This moraine marks where ancient glaciers once stopped. It helps divide Ohio into different areas with unique landscapes and cultures.
According to the United States Census Bureau, Amesville covers about 0.22 square miles (0.57 square kilometers) of land. There is no significant water area within the village limits.
