Amir Ohana became involved in politics with the Likud party. He was the chairman of the Likud's group for diverse communities, called Likud Pride. In 2015, he was placed on the Likud list for the Knesset elections. Although Likud won 30 seats and he was 32nd on the list, he later entered the Knesset. After being re-elected in the April 2019 elections, Ohana was appointed Minister of Justice in June. This made him the first person with his background to serve in the Israeli government.
