Amsterdam is a small village located in the northwestern part of Jefferson County, Ohio, United States. In 2020, about 436 people lived here.
This community was started by a Dutch immigrant named David Johnson. He named it after the famous city of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Amsterdam, Ohio, is also part of the larger Weirton–Steubenville metropolitan area.

A Look Back: Amsterdam's History
Amsterdam was first planned out in 1828. A post office, where people could send and receive mail, opened in 1832.
In 1997, Amsterdam was recognized as a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation. This means the village has done a great job taking care of its trees and green spaces.
