Ethel Ana del Rosario Jara Velásquez (born May 11, 1968) is a Peruvian lawyer and politician. She served as the Prime Minister of Peru from July 2014 to April 2015. Before that, she held important roles as a government minister. She also served as a member of the Peruvian Congress.
Early Life and Education
Ana Jara was born in Ica, Peru, on May 11, 1968. She went to elementary school at I.E. No. 22494 Juan XXIII. For high school, she attended Antonia Moreno de Cáceres School in her hometown.
She studied Law and Political Science at the Saint Aloysius Gonzaga National University in Ica. She also earned a Master's degree in Law from the same university. Later, she completed a PhD in Law.
In 1998, Ana Jara started working as a notary public in Ica. A notary public is someone who can officially witness signatures on important documents. She held several positions in the notary field.
Political Career
Ana Jara began her political journey by running for Congress in 2006. She did not win that election. A few months later, she ran for Governor of Ica, placing third.
In 2011, Ana Jara was elected as a congresswoman for Ica. She represented the Nationalist-led Peru Wins group. As a congresswoman, she helped make laws for the country. She was part of important committees, including the Foreign Relations Commission.
On December 11, 2011, she became a government minister. She was sworn in as the Minister of Women and Social Development. This ministry helps women and families in Peru. In 2012, its name changed to the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations.
In February 2014, she took on a new role. She became the Minister of Labor and Employment Promotion of Peru. This ministry works on jobs and workers' rights.
After the previous Prime Minister resigned, Ana Jara was chosen for the top job. She became the President of the Council of Ministers, also known as the Prime Minister. Her swearing-in ceremony was on July 22, 2014.
As Prime Minister, she needed the support of Congress. On August 26, her team received a "vote of confidence" from Congress. This meant Congress approved of her government.
However, in March 2015, some members of Congress were concerned about government activities. They proposed a motion to remove her from office. On March 30, Congress voted to remove her. Because of this vote, she had to resign from her position as Prime Minister.
