Ana Jara was born in Ica, Peru, on May 11, 1968. She went to elementary school at I.E. No. 22494 Juan XXIII. For high school, she attended Antonia Moreno de Cáceres School in the same city.
She studied Law and Political Science at the Saint Aloysius Gonzaga National University in Ica. She also earned a Master's degree in Law, focusing on Civil and Commercial Law, from the same university. Later, she completed a PhD in Law.
In 1998, Ana Jara started working as a notary public in Ica. A notary public is someone who can legally witness signatures on important documents. She held several roles in the notary field, including secretary of the Mutual Fund of Peruvian Notaries from 2000 to 2001.
Political Journey and Roles
Starting in Politics
In 2006, Ana Jara first tried to become a Congresswoman for Ica. She ran with the Union for Peru party but was not elected. A few months later, she ran for Governor of Ica and finished third.
Five years later, in 2011, Ana Jara was elected as a congresswoman. She represented the Nationalist-led group called Peru Wins. As a congresswoman, she was part of important groups like the Permanent Commission of the Congress. She also worked on the Audit and Justice Commissions and was secretary of the Housing Commission. She even served as the president of the Foreign Relations Commission.
Becoming a Minister
On December 11, 2011, Ana Jara became the Minister of Women and Social Development. This was part of President Ollanta Humala's second group of ministers. On January 21, 2012, her office's name changed to the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations. This ministry helps women and people who are in need of support.
Later, on February 24, 2014, she became the Minister of Labour and Employment Promotion of Peru. This role involved working on jobs and employment for people in Peru.
Serving as Prime Minister
After the previous Prime Minister, René Cornejo, resigned, Ana Jara was chosen to lead the Council of Ministers. This means she became the Prime Minister of Peru. Her swearing-in ceremony happened on July 22, 2014, at the Government Palace.
On August 26, 2014, after two attempts, Ana Jara and her group of ministers received a "vote of confidence" from the Congress. This vote showed that Congress supported her government.
However, on March 20, 2015, some members of Congress wanted to remove her from office. They presented a motion to censure her because of concerns about the intelligence service spying on politicians, business leaders, and journalists. This issue was discussed on March 30, 2015. Congress voted to censure her, with 72 votes in favor and 42 against. Because of this vote, she had to resign from her position as Prime Minister.
