Anar Rzayev, often called simply Anar, is a well-known writer, playwright, and film director from Azerbaijan. He was born on March 14, 1938, in the city of Baku. Anar is also the head of the Writers' Union of Azerbaijan. He is most famous for his novels and short stories. He has also written movie scripts and directed films.

Early Life and Education

Anar grew up in a family of poets. His parents were the famous Azerbaijani poets Rasul Rza and Nigar Rafibeyli. After finishing a 10-year music school in Baku, Anar went to Baku State University. There, he studied Philology, which is the study of language and literature. Later, he took special courses in Moscow to learn about writing movie scripts and producing films.

Famous Works and Films

Anar started publishing his stories in the 1960s. He has written many popular books and short stories. Some of his well-known works include "Longing for the Holiday" and "The Rain Stopped." Other famous stories are "White Port" and "A Person's Person." His book "The Sixth Floor of the Five-Storey Building" was even used to make the movie Tahmina.

Anar has also written scripts for several movies. These include Torpaq. Dəniz. Od. Səma (which means "The Land. The Sea. The Fire. The Sky") and Gün Keçdi ("The Day Passed"). He also wrote the script for the film Dədə Qorqud. Anar was both the writer and producer for the movie Üzeyir Ömrü, which tells the story of the famous composer Uzeyir.

Awards and Leadership

Anar has received many important awards for his work. In 1976, he was named an Honored Art Worker of Azerbaijan. This award recognizes people who have made great contributions to art. He also received the Azerbaijan State Prize in 1980. In 1998, he was given the Istiglal Order, which is a very high honor in Azerbaijan.

Besides his writing and film work, Anar is also a leader in the literary world. He is the President of the Writers' Union of Azerbaijan. This union supports writers in the country. Anar has also served as a member of the government several times. He was part of the Supreme Soviet of Azerbaijan SSR and later the National Assembly of Azerbaijan. These roles are similar to being a member of parliament, where he helped make laws for his country.

His works have also been published in English, allowing more people around the world to enjoy his stories.
