Anar Rasul oghlu Rzayev, born on March 14, 1938, in Baku, is a famous Azerbaijani writer. He is also known simply as Anar. He writes books and plays, directs movies, and used to write movie scripts. Anar is currently the head of the Writers' Union of Azerbaijan.

Early Life and Education
Anar grew up in a family of poets. His parents were Rasul Rza and Nigar Rafibeyli, both well-known Azerbaijani poets.
Anar finished a 10-year music school in Baku. After that, he studied at the Baku State University in the Philology Department. Philology is the study of language and literature. Later, he took special classes in Moscow to learn about writing movie scripts and making films.

Anar started publishing his writings in the 1960s. He has written many different types of stories and plays.

Awards and Leadership Roles
Anar has received many important awards for his work. He was named an Honored Art Worker of Azerbaijan in 1976. In 1980, he received the Azerbaijan State Prize. He was also given the Istiglal Order (Order of Sovereignty) in 1998.
Besides his writing, Anar is the President of the Writers' Union of Azerbaijan. He has also served as a member of the Supreme Soviet and the National Assembly several times, helping to make important decisions for his country.
