Anastasia is a small, unofficial community in Vulcan County, Alberta, Canada. It was once a settlement for a group of people called the Doukhobors. The community is located about 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) east of Arrowwood. It might have been named after Princess Anastasia Romanov.
History of Anastasia
After Peter Verigin died in 1924, some Doukhobor people believed Anastasia F. Holoboff should lead them. But most Doukhobors thought Peter's son should be the new leader.
So, in 1926, Anastasia and about 160 people who followed her left the main group. They bought land about 3 km west of Shouldice, Alberta. This is where they started their new community.
