The Building's Unique Style
The outside of The Anchor Inn is very special. It's covered in a type of decorated clay called terracotta. This terracotta is thought to have come from a company called Hathern Station Brick and Terracotta Company, located in Loughborough.
A Protected Piece of History
Because of its unique design and history, The Anchor Inn was given a special status on December 10, 1991. It became a Grade II listed building. This means it's an important historical building that needs to be protected. Other pubs nearby, like the White Swan, also have this special status.
Awards and Recognition
The Anchor Inn is not just old; it's also very popular! It has won many awards from the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA). CAMRA is a group that promotes traditional pubs and real ale. The Anchor Inn was named 'Regional Pub of the Year' multiple times:
- 1996/97
- 1998/99
- 2003/04
- 2007/08
A Change of Hands
For 43 years, the pub was run by the Keane family. They were a big part of its history. In 2016, Julian Rose-Gibbs took over. He continues the tradition of this much-loved pub.
