History of Andes Mints
In 1921, a man named Andrew Kanelos opened a small candy shop. It was located in Chicago, Illinois. He first called his shop "Andy's Candies." But he soon realized something. His male customers didn't like giving candy boxes with another man's name to their partners. So, he changed the name to "Andes Candies."
The popular mints were first sold in 1950. Over the years, Andes changed owners a few times. In 1980, a Swiss candy company called Interfood bought Andes. Later, in 2000, Tootsie Roll Industries bought Andes. This is the company that still owns them today. Andes Mints are made in Delavan, Wisconsin.
In the United States, Andes mints are a popular treat. Many people enjoy them after dinner. Restaurants, like Olive Garden, often give them out. The mints at Olive Garden are a special flavor. They are made just for that restaurant. But they taste very similar to the regular Mint Parfait flavor.
