André Bucher (born 19 October 1976) is a retired Swiss runner. He was famous for competing in the 800 metres race. André ran for Adidas, a well-known sports brand. He was born in Neudorf, Switzerland.
André is best known for winning a gold medal at the World Championships in Edmonton, Canada. This was a huge win for him in the 800-meter event. In the same year, he also won a bronze medal at the World Indoor Championships.
He also earned two silver medals at the European Championships. These were in 1998 and 2002. André also won a silver medal at the European Indoor Championships in 2002. Another great achievement was finishing third at the 2003 IAAF World Athletics Final in 2003.
At the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, something unfair happened. Another runner, Andrea Longo, bumped into André during the race. André still finished in fifth place. Later, Longo was disqualified for the incident.
On 17 August 2001, André ran his fastest 800-meter race ever. He finished in an amazing 1 minute and 42.55 seconds. This time makes him one of the fastest 800-meter runners in history. In that race, he beat a young runner named Yuriy Borzakovskiy.
André Bucher stopped running professionally in May 2007. He retired because of a long-term injury to his heel.
