André Bucher, born on October 19, 1976, is a retired Swiss runner. He was famous for competing in the 800 metres race. André is best known for winning a gold medal at the World Championships in 2001. This big win happened in Edmonton, Canada. In the same year, he also won a bronze medal at the World Indoor Championships. André was born in a town called Neudorf.

André also won two silver medals at the European Championships. These were in 1998 and 2002. He earned another silver medal at the European Indoor Championships in 2002. He also placed third at the 2003 IAAF World Athletics Final in 2003.

At the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, André had a tough race. Another runner, Andrea Longo, bumped into him. Even though André finished fifth, Longo was later disqualified from the race.

On August 17, 2001, André ran his fastest 800-meter race ever. He finished in 1 minute and 42.55 seconds. This amazing time still makes him one of the fastest 800-meter runners in history. In that race, he beat a younger runner named Yuriy Borzakovskiy.
