Andrés Espinoza Pérez, born on February 4, 1963, is a famous runner from Mexico. He was a long-distance runner, which means he ran very far in races. He was especially good at marathon races, which are super long races, about 42 kilometers (26 miles) long!

Andrés Espinoza won the important New York Marathon in 1993. He also ran his fastest ever marathon in 1994 at the Boston Marathon, finishing in an amazing 2 hours, 7 minutes, and 19 seconds. This was his "personal best" time. He even set a world record for runners over 40 years old (called "masters" athletes) in 2003 at the Berlin Marathon! He also won the Lisbon Half Marathon in 1994.

A Champion Runner

Andrés Espinoza showed he was a top runner many times. He won the Dallas Marathon two years in a row, in 1988 and 1989. These early wins showed he had a lot of talent for long-distance running.

Big City Marathons

Andrés loved running in big city marathons. He came in second place at the New York City Marathon twice, in 1991 and 1992, before finally winning it in 1993! Winning the New York City Marathon is a huge achievement for any runner.

In 1994, he ran his fastest marathon ever at the Boston Marathon. He finished second in that race, but his time of 2:07:19 hours was incredibly fast. This time showed just how good he was.

World Championships and Olympics

Andrés also competed against the best runners from all over the world. He ran in the World Championships in 1995, finishing ninth. He also represented Mexico in the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 and in Athens in 2004. Competing in the Olympics is a dream for many athletes!

One of Andrés Espinoza's most special achievements was setting a world record for "masters" athletes. This means he set a record for runners who are over 40 years old. In 2003, at the Berlin Marathon, he ran the race in 2 hours, 8 minutes, and 46 seconds. This was a world record for runners over 40, and it lasted for almost 12 years! It was finally broken by just two seconds in 2015.
