Andre Shelby's Amazing Journey
Andre Shelby was born on December 8, 1966. His hometown is Jeffersonville, Indiana. His parents are Lee and Etta Shelby. He went to Jeffersonville High School and finished in 1985. In high school, Andre was a talented athlete. He played both football and basketball.
After high school, Andre joined the United States Navy. He served for 18 years. He was a boatswain's mate. This job meant he helped manage ships and transport troops. He even helped during the Gulf War. In April 2004, Andre had a motorcycle accident. This accident meant he needed a wheelchair. It also led to his retirement from the Navy.
Discovering Archery
Andre found a new passion in 2008: archery! This sport involves shooting arrows at a target. He quickly became very good at it.
Paralympic Success
Andre worked hard and qualified for the 2016 Summer Paralympics. He earned his spot by winning a gold medal. This happened at the 2015 Parapan American Games in Toronto.
