Andrea Anastasi (born October 8, 1960) is a famous Italian volleyball coach and former player. He was part of the Italian national team from 1981 to 1991. During his time as a player, he helped Italy win the World Championship in 1990. Today, he works as the head coach for Gas Sales Piacenza.

Playing for Italy

Andrea Anastasi played 141 games for the Italian national team. He was a key player when Italy won the World Championship in 1990. He also helped them win the European Championship in 1989. Andrea also won gold medals in the World League in 1990 and 1991 with the Italian team.

Club Success

At the club level, Andrea started playing for Parma in 1977. He later played for teams like Modena, Falconara, and Treviso. With these clubs, he won the CEV Challenge Cup three times.

Becoming a Coach

Andrea Anastasi started his coaching career with Brescia in 1994. From 1995 to 1999, he coached Montichiari in Italy's top league.

Coaching Italy (First Time)

In 1999, Andrea was chosen to be the head coach of the Italian national team. He had great success with them.

  • In 1999, his team won two gold medals: the European Championship and the FIVB World League.
  • In 2000, they won the World League again. They also earned a bronze medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics by beating Argentina.
  • In 2001, Italy won two silver medals in the FIVB World League and the European Championship.
  • In his last year coaching Italy, 2003, his team won a bronze medal in the FIVB World League and a gold medal in the European Championship.

Coaching Piemonte

From 2003 to 2005, Andrea coached Piemonte Volley in the Italian Serie A League. His team finished fourth twice and won the Italian Cup in 2005.

Coaching Spain

Next, Andrea Anastasi became the coach for the Spanish national team. In the 2007 European Championship, he led Spain to a historic win, becoming European Champions in Moscow. Spain won 15 games in a row! He also helped them win a silver medal at the Mediterranean Games.

Coaching Italy (Second Time)

In 2007, Andrea returned to coach the Italian team. However, this time they didn't have as much success. They finished 4th at the 2008 Summer Olympics and 10th at the European Championship. He left the team in 2010.

Coaching Poland

On February 23, 2011, Andrea Anastasi became the head coach of the Polish national team. Poland was ranked 11th in the world at that time.

  • 2011 was a very successful year. On July 10, 2011, Poland won their first-ever medal in the World League.
  • On September 18, 2011, Poland beat Russia to win another bronze medal.
  • Andrea also led Poland to a silver medal at the 2011 FIVB World Cup. This was the first time in history that the Polish national team won three medals in one year!
  • In 2012, on July 8, his team won the final match of the 2012 FIVB World League against the United States.
  • At the 2012 Summer Olympics, his team finished 5th.
  • In October 2013, Andrea Anastasi stopped being the coach of the Polish national team.

Coaching Trefl Gdańsk

In June 2014, Andrea Anastasi became the new head coach for Lotos Trefl Gdańsk, a club team.

  • His team finished 3rd in their league and won the Polish Cup in 2015.
  • In February 2015, he signed a new two-year contract because of his team's good results.
  • Lotos Trefl made it to the finals of the Polish Championship for the first time in their history. Andrea led them to a silver medal in 2015.
  • On March 14, 2018, Anastasi extended his contract with Trefl Gdańsk. He also became the new head coach of the Belgian national team.
