Andrea Anastasi (born October 8, 1960) is a famous Italian volleyball coach and former player. He was a key member of the Italian national team from 1981 to 1991. During his playing career, he helped Italy win the World Championship in 1990.

Andrea Anastasi has had a long and successful career in volleyball, both as a player and as a coach. He is known for his strategic thinking and ability to lead teams to victory.

Playing Days: A World Champion

Andrea Anastasi played 141 matches for the Italian national team. He was part of the "Azzurri" team that achieved great success.

  • He won the World Championship in 1990.
  • He also secured the European Championship gold medal in 1989.
  • Anastasi helped Italy win the World League in 1990 and again in 1991.

At the club level, Andrea started his career with Pallavolo Parma in 1977. He later played for Modena, Falconara, and Treviso. With these clubs, he won the CEV Challenge Cup three times.

Coaching Career: Leading Teams to Gold

After a brilliant playing career, Andrea Anastasi became a head coach. He started coaching Pallavolo Brescia in 1994. From 1995 to 1999, he coached Montichiari in Italy's top league.

Coaching Italy (First Time): 1999-2003

In 1999, Andrea Anastasi became the head coach of the Italian national team. He led them to many victories:

  • In 1999, Italy won both the European Championship and the FIVB World League.
  • In 2000, they won the World League again and earned a bronze medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics. They defeated Argentina 3-0 for the bronze.
  • In 2001, Italy won two silver medals: one at the FIVB World League and another at the European Championship.
  • In 2003, his last year coaching Italy, they won a bronze medal at the FIVB World League and a gold medal at the European Championship.

Coaching Piemonte: 2003-2005

From 2003 to 2005, Anastasi coached Piemonte Volley in the Italian Serie A League. His team finished fourth twice and won the Italian Cup in 2005.

Coaching Spain: 2005-2007

Next, Anastasi moved to coach the Spanish national team. In 2007, he led Spain to a historic victory at the European Championship in Moscow. Spain beat the host team in the final and achieved an amazing 15 wins in a row. He also helped them win a silver medal at the Mediterranean Games.

Coaching Italy (Second Time): 2007-2010

In 2007, Anastasi returned to coach Italy. However, this time, the team did not achieve as much success. They finished 4th at the 2008 Summer Olympics and 4th at the 2010 World Championship. He left the team in 2010.

Coaching Poland: 2011-2013

On February 23, 2011, Andrea Anastasi became the head coach of the Polish national team. This was a very successful period for him and the team.

  • On July 10, 2011, Poland won its first-ever medal in the World League (a bronze).
  • On September 18, 2011, Poland beat Russia to win another bronze medal.
  • Anastasi led Poland to a silver medal at the 2011 FIVB World Cup.
  • In 2011, the Polish national team won three medals in one year for the first time in their history.
  • On July 8, 2012, Poland won the final match of the 2012 FIVB World League against the United States (3-0).
  • At the 2012 Olympic Games, his team finished in 5th place.

Andrea Anastasi left his role as coach of the Polish national team in October 2013.

Coaching Trefl Gdańsk: 2014-2019

In June 2014, Andrea Anastasi was announced as the new head coach for Lotos Trefl Gdańsk.

  • His team finished 3rd in the regular season of the PlusLiga.
  • They won the Polish Cup in 2015.
  • In February 2015, he signed a new two-year contract due to the team's excellent performance.
  • Lotos Trefl made it to the final of the 2014–15 PlusLiga, a historic first for the club, and won a silver medal in the 2015 Polish Championship.
  • On March 14, 2018, Anastasi extended his contract with Trefl Gdańsk.

Recent Coaching Roles

Andrea Anastasi also coached the Belgian national team starting in 2018. He later coached Projekt Warsaw from 2019 to 2022. From 2022 to 2023, he led Sir Safety Perugia, winning the FIVB Club World Championship in 2022 and the Italian SuperCup in 2023. Since 2023, he has been coaching Gas Sales Piacenza.
