Early life
Andrea Riseborough was born in Wallsend, a town near Newcastle upon Tyne, England. Her mother, Isabel Johnson, was a secretary, and her father, George Riseborough, was a car dealer. Andrea grew up in Whitley Bay.
She started acting at a young age. She performed at the People's Theatre in Newcastle upon Tyne. She was also part of the Young People's Theatre for five years. Andrea went to the Newcastle upon Tyne Church High School. Later, she studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), a famous drama school. She graduated in 2005.
Career
After finishing drama school, Andrea Riseborough quickly began working in film and television. In 2008, she played Margaret Thatcher in the BBC Four film The Long Walk to Finchley. She also appeared in the films Made in Dagenham and Never Let Me Go in 2010.
She took on the role of Wallis Simpson in the 2011 film W.E., which was directed by Madonna. Andrea also starred in the thriller Hidden, released in 2015. In 2013, she had a supporting role in the science fiction film Oblivion.
A big moment in her career was co-starring in Birdman (or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014). This movie won the Oscar for Best Picture at the 87th Academy Awards. Andrea and the other actors in the film won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
In 2016, she appeared in the drama Shepherds and Butchers and the thriller Nocturnal Animals. She also joined the cast of the Netflix TV series Bloodline. She later starred in the horror film The Grudge, released in 2020. She also played a lead role in Possessor, a science fiction thriller.
In 2022, Andrea starred in the film To Leslie. Her performance received a lot of praise, and she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress.
