Becoming a Defender
During the 2003–04 season, Andreas changed his position to a defender. He played in 32 matches for TSV 1860 Munich that season. He even scored his first professional goal on March 27, 2004, with a header.

Loan to Karlsruher SC
In 2007, Andreas was loaned to Karlsruher SC, a team that had just been promoted to the Bundesliga. He played almost every league match for them in the 2007–08 season. His team finished in a safe spot, far from being relegated.
His loan was extended for another year. After that, he went back to Bayern Munich. For his last year with Bayern, he often played for their reserve team, FC Bayern Munich II.
Playing in the USA
On March 4, 2014, Andreas Görlitz signed with the San Jose Earthquakes. This team plays in Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States. An injury limited him to only three league matches that season. He was released by the team at the end of 2014.
Playing for Germany
Soon after joining Bayern Munich, Andreas Görlitz played for the Germany national football team. His first game was on September 8, 2004, in a friendly match against Brazil. He played for the last five minutes of that game.
The next month, he played another friendly game against Iran. In that match, he helped set up a goal for his teammate. These two games were his only appearances for the German national team.
