Andrelton Alexander Simmons (born September 4, 1989) is a professional baseball shortstop from Curaçao. He currently plays for the Dorados de Chihuahua in the Mexican League. Before that, he played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for teams like the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Angels.

Simmons is famous for his amazing defensive skills. He won four Rawlings Gold Glove Awards as a shortstop. He also earned a Wilson MLB Overall Defensive Player of the Year Award and six Fielding Bible Awards. Many experts consider him one of the best defensive shortstops of his time.

Early Baseball Days

Simmons grew up playing baseball in Curaçao. He played alongside other future baseball stars like Kenley Jansen and Didi Gregorius. Besides baseball, he also enjoyed playing basketball and soccer.

Because he was not very big, many MLB scouts did not notice him at first. This changed when he went to Western Oklahoma State College. As a freshman, he was a fantastic hitter. He helped his team reach the 2010 National Junior College Athletic Association Division II College World Series.
