Serving During the Civil War

During the American Civil War, Andrew Kuykendall joined the Union Army. This was the army that fought to keep the United States together. He served for one year. He held the rank of major in the 31st Illinois Infantry regiment.

After the war, Kuykendall was elected to the 39th United States Congress. He served as a Republican representative. His term in Congress was from March 4, 1865, to March 3, 1867. In this role, he helped make laws for the whole country.

After his time in Congress, he returned to being a lawyer in Vienna, Illinois. He also became a judge. He served as the county and probate judge for Johnson County, Illinois.
