Andrew Jackson Clements (born December 23, 1832 – died November 7, 1913) was an American doctor and politician from Tennessee. He served as a member of the United States House of Representatives for Tennessee's 4th congressional district.

Andrew Jackson Clements was born on December 23, 1832, in Clementsville, Tennessee. This town was named after his family! His parents were Christopher Clements and Polly Fraim. His grandfather, John Clemans, was a soldier in the American Revolutionary War.

Andrew went to a private school and later studied at Burritt College in Spencer, Tennessee. He chose to become a doctor and started his medical practice in Lafayette, Tennessee.

He was married twice. His first wife, Nancy Jones Clements, passed away in 1858. Later, he married Matilda Harlan. Together, they had four children: Mollie, Carlos, Carolyn, and Fred.

What Was Andrew Clements' Career?

During the American Civil War, Andrew Clements worked as a surgeon. He was part of the First Regiment, Tennessee Mounted Volunteer Infantry, helping soldiers who were injured.

After the war, he became a politician. He was elected to the United States Congress as a Unionist. He served as a U.S. Representative for Tennessee from March 4, 1861, to March 3, 1863.

Later, he was also a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives in 1866 and 1867. After his time in politics, he went back to being a doctor. He also started a school on his property to help educate people in the Cumberland Plateau area.

Andrew Jackson Clements passed away on November 7, 1913, at the age of 80. He died from pneumonia in Lakeland, Kentucky. He is buried at Glasgow Municipal Cemetery in Glasgow, Kentucky.
