Andrew George Lauterstein (born 22 May 1987) is an Australian swimmer. He has won three Olympic medals.

About Andrew Lauterstein

Andrew Lauterstein grew up in Black Rock, Victoria. He went to Brighton Grammar School. Andrew has an older brother and a younger sister.

When he was younger, Andrew was a talented athlete. He played for the Victorian state football team. He also represented Australia in baseball on youth teams. At 16, he decided to focus only on swimming.

Outside of swimming, Andrew enjoys being a DJ. In 2008, he was nominated for a popular award for young men.

Swimming Highlights

Andrew Lauterstein is known for his strong performances in butterfly and freestyle swimming. He has competed in many major swimming events. These include the World Championships and the Olympic Games.

2007 World Championships

In 2007, Andrew competed at the 2007 World Aquatics Championships in Melbourne. He swam in the 100-metre butterfly event. He also took part in two relay races.

In the 4×100-metre freestyle relay, Australia finished fifth. Andrew swam the third part of the race.

Andrew won a gold medal in the 4×100-metre medley relay. He swam the butterfly leg. His teammate, Eamon Sullivan, helped Australia win by swimming very fast at the end.

2008 Olympic Games

Andrew Lauterstein had a very successful time at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. He won three medals there.

He earned a bronze medal in the 4×100-metre freestyle relay. He swam the second part of the final race.

In the 100-metre butterfly, Andrew set a new Australian record. He won a bronze medal with a time of 51.12 seconds. He just beat Ian Crocker by 0.01 seconds. This was the race where Michael Phelps won his seventh gold medal.

Andrew also won a silver medal in the 4×100-metre medley relay. He swam the butterfly part of this race.

After the Olympics, Andrew changed coaches. He moved to the New South Wales Institute of Sport. There, he trained with Grant Stoelwinder. This coach also trained famous swimmers like Libby Lenton and Eamon Sullivan.

In 2009, Andrew showed great form. He swam very fast times in state championships. At the Australian Swimming Championships, he set a new Australian record in the 50-metre butterfly.

2009 World Championships

At the 2009 World Aquatics Championships in Rome, Andrew continued to compete.

In the 4×100-metre freestyle relay, Australia finished eighth.

Andrew set another Australian record in the 100-metre butterfly. He finished fifth in the final.

He won a bronze medal in the 4×100-metre medley relay. His butterfly split time in the preliminaries was one of the fastest ever.
