Andrew FitzJames Morrough was an important Irish politician who lived and was active from around 1650 to 1692. He was a supporter of King James II, a group known as the Jacobites.

Early Life and Becoming a Lawyer

Andrew FitzJames Morrough was the son of James Morrough. In 1668, he began his legal training at a famous place called Gray's Inn in London. After his training, he became a lawyer in Ireland, which is known as being "called to the Irish bar". This meant he could practice law and represent people in court.

Political Career

Serving Kinsale

Andrew Morrough became a key figure in the town of Kinsale, a port town in Ireland. In 1687, King James II gave Kinsale a new official document, called a charter. This charter gave the town new rights and rules. From February 28, 1687, Morrough became the Recorder of Kinsale. This was an important legal job, similar to being the chief legal officer or a judge for the town.

Member of Parliament

As a strong supporter of King James II, Andrew Morrough was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP) in 1689. He represented Kinsale in a special meeting of Parliament called the Patriot Parliament. This Parliament was set up by King James II himself. Morrough served alongside another MP named Miles de Courcy. Besides his role as an MP, he also helped decide how much tax people should pay in County Cork.

Later Life and Challenges

After the Williamite War in Ireland ended, Andrew Morrough faced difficulties. This war was fought between the supporters of King James II and those who supported William III. Because Morrough had sided with James II, he lost some of his land. This land was taken away as part of the "Williamite land confiscations," which affected many people who had supported the losing side. The land he lost was worth about £80 each year.
