The title of Lord Rollo is a special noble title in Scotland. It was first created on January 10, 1651. This title belongs to the head of the Clan Rollo, a historic Scottish family. The person who holds this title is known as the Chief of Clan Rollo. The family's historic home was Duncrub Castle, located near Dunning in Perthshire.

The Lords Rollo Title

How the Title Began

The title of Lord Rollo was first given to Sir Andrew Rollo in 1651. It was created as part of the Peerage of Scotland. This meant the title would pass down through his male family members. The title was connected to Duncrub, a place in the County of Perth.

Important People in the Rollo Family

Over the years, many Lords Rollo have held this title. The fifth Lord Rollo was a brave soldier. He was a Brigadier-General in the Army. He fought in North America during the Seven Years' War. He did not have any sons who lived, so his younger brother became the sixth Lord.

Later, the eighth Lord Rollo became a Scottish Representative Peer. This meant he was chosen to represent Scotland in the House of Lords. The House of Lords is part of the UK Parliament. He served there from 1841 to 1846. His son, the ninth Lord, also served as a Scottish Representative Peer.

The tenth Lord Rollo was also a Scottish Representative Peer. In 1869, he received another special title. He was made Baron Dunning in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. This new title meant that the Lords Rollo would automatically have a seat in the House of Lords. They kept this automatic seat until 1999.

Lord Rollo Today

As of 2017, the current holder of the title is the fourteenth Lord Rollo. His name is David Eric Howard Rollo. He became Lord Rollo in 1997 after his father passed away. He is the direct descendant of the tenth Lord. He also serves as the hereditary Clan Chief of Clan Rollo.

Who Will Be Lord Rollo Next?

The person who is expected to inherit the title next is called the heir apparent. For the current Lord Rollo, his eldest son is the heir apparent. His name is the Honourable James David William Rollo. He is also known as the Master of Rollo. The Master of Rollo's son, Charles James Thomas Rollo, is next in line after his father.
