Andriy Ivanovych Sadovyi (Ukrainian: Андрій Іванович Садовий; born 19 August 1968) is a Ukrainian politician and businessman. He has been the mayor of Lviv, a big city in western Ukraine, since 2006.
He used to lead a political group called Self Reliance. He also helped start a media company called "Lux". In 2019, Sadovyi wanted to become the president of Ukraine but later decided to step back from the race.

Early Life and Learning
Andriy Sadovyi was born in Lviv on August 19, 1968. He finished a technical school for radio electronics in 1987. After that, he served in the Soviet Army from 1987 to 1989.
He went to Lviv Polytechnic and finished in 1995, studying electrical engineering. Later, he learned about finance and became an economist in 1997. In 1999, he earned a master's degree in public administration from the National Academy for Public Administration under the President of Ukraine.
Starting His Career
In 1989, Andriy Sadovyi began working with electronic devices at a company called Lvivprylad Manufacturers. From 1992 to 1995, he was a deputy director at a fund that helped young people.
He later became the head of several companies and organizations. For example, he led a company called Pivden'zakhidelectromerezhbud from 1997 to 2005. He also led the Lviv District Development Fund. From 2002 to 2003, he was the director of the Lviv Development Institute. Since 2002, he has been in charge of a TV and radio company called TRK Lux. In 2005, he became the head of a social group named Self Reliance.
Mayor of Lviv (2006-Present)
Andriy Sadovyi was first chosen as the mayor of Lviv on March 26, 2006. He was chosen again for a second time on October 31, 2010. He was part of the Our Ukraine party until 2010.
In 2012, Sadovyi suggested starting a new political party called Self Reliance. This party was officially registered in late 2012. The name "Self Reliance" comes from old groups in Galicia that helped people, similar to credit unions today.
In 2014 and 2015, there were incidents at Sadovyi's house. His house was damaged a couple of times, but luckily, he and his family were not hurt. An attacker was arrested after one of these events.
Sadovyi's party, Self Reliance, did very well in the Ukrainian parliamentary election in October 2014. They won 33 seats in the parliament. However, Sadovyi decided to stay as the mayor of Lviv instead of becoming a member of parliament.
In 2016, Lviv faced challenges with waste management after a landfill was closed. This led to garbage problems in the city. In November 2016, Sadovyi launched a new tram route to help people travel across the city. On October 17, 2016, a special center was opened in Lviv to help soldiers. The city council also decided to give money to soldiers and their families, help them get land, or provide housing for those who were seriously hurt or lost family members in the war.
In March 2017, Sadovyi announced a plan to solve Lviv's garbage issues. By June 2017, the problem was so big that the Lviv Regional State Administration took over managing the city's waste for two years.
On October 3, 2018, Self Reliance announced that Sadovyi would run for president in the 2019 Ukrainian presidential election. He was a candidate from January 8 to March 1, 2019. He then decided to stop his campaign to support another candidate, Anatoliy Hrytsenko. Sadovyi stepped down because polls showed he did not have enough support. Hrytsenko did not win the election.
In the 2019 Ukrainian parliamentary election, Sadovyi's party lost most of its seats in parliament. In October 2019, Oksana Syroyid became the new leader of the Self Reliance party.
In March 2019, a new dormitory for orphans was opened in Lviv. This place offers not only a home but also legal and psychological help for children.
In August 2020, Sadovyi announced he would run for mayor of Lviv again. He was re-elected in the second round of the Lviv mayoral election on November 22, 2020. He won with 62.25% of the votes.
In December 2024, Sadovyi became the first mayor from Ukraine to visit Taiwan. During his five-day trip, he thanked the Taiwanese government for a US$5 million donation. This money will help fix up a rehabilitation center in Lviv.
Personal Life
Andriy Sadovyi is married to Kateryna Kit-Sadova. They have five sons: Ivan, Tadey, Mykhailo, Yosyp, and Anthony.
His wife owns parts of several TV and radio stations, including Channel 24.
Sadovyi has been involved in community work since 1997. He helped start and leads the Lviv Development Institute. He also served on the management council of a fund for art and culture. He is a member of the Ukrainian-Polish Cooperation Capital. In 2003, he was chosen as a deputy head of the "Mosty na Skhid" Institute Council in Poland.
