Andrzej Marian Olechowski (born 9 September 1947) is a Polish politician. He helped start the liberal conservative political party called Civic Platform in 2001. He founded it with Maciej Płażyński and Donald Tusk.
Mr. Olechowski served as a government minister in Poland. He was the Minister of Finance in 1992. Later, he became the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1993 to 1995.

Early Life and Education
Andrzej Olechowski was born in Kraków, Poland. He studied at the Central School of Planning and Statistics in Warsaw. He earned his PhD there in 1979. He also attended the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva.
Political Career
Andrzej Olechowski has held several important roles in Polish politics.
Minister of Finance
In 1992, Andrzej Olechowski became the Minister of Finance. He worked in the government led by Jan Olszewski. This role meant he was in charge of Poland's money and economy.
Minister of Foreign Affairs
From 1993 to 1995, Mr. Olechowski served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He worked in the government of Waldemar Pawlak. In this job, he represented Poland to other countries around the world.
Presidential Elections
Andrzej Olechowski ran for president of Poland two times. In the 2000 presidential election, he ran as an independent candidate. He came in second place.
He also ran in the 2010 Polish presidential election. In that election, he received 1.44% of the votes. He did not move on to the second round of voting.
Mayoral Candidacy
In 2002, Andrzej Olechowski was a candidate for mayor of Warsaw. He ran for the Civic Platform party. However, he did not make it to the second round of the election. After this, he started to step back from active politics.

Andrzej Olechowski was a key founder of the Civic Platform party in 2001. He was a member of this party until July 2009. After leaving Civic Platform, he began working with the Democratic Party.
