André Lange (born June 28, 1973) is a retired German bobsledder. He is known as one of the most successful bobsleigh pilots ever. Lange competed in the Winter Olympics in 2002, 2006, and 2010. He won four gold medals and one silver medal. He started his sports career as a luge athlete. He switched to bobsleigh in 1993.

André Lange: A Bobsleigh Legend

André Lange is a famous German bobsledder. He was a pilot, which means he steered the bobsled. He is one of the best bobsledders in history. He retired from the sport in 2010.

Olympic Games: A Golden Run

André Lange had amazing success at the Winter Olympics. He won medals in three different Olympic Games.

  • At the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, he won a gold medal. This was in the four-man bobsleigh event. His teammates were Carsten Embach, Enrico Kühn, and Kevin Kuske.
  • At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, he won two gold medals. He won gold in the two-man event with Kevin Kuske. He also won gold in the four-man event. His four-man team included Kevin Kuske, René Hoppe, and Martin Putze.
  • At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, he added more medals. He won gold in the two-man event. He also earned a silver medal in the four-man event.

World Championship Success

Lange also won many medals at the FIBT World Championships. These championships are very important in bobsleigh. He won a total of fourteen medals there.

  • He earned eight gold medals. Three were in the two-man event (2003, 2007, 2008). Five were in the four-man event (2000, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008).
  • He won four silver medals. Two were in the two-man event (2000, 2005). Two were in the four-man event (2001, 2009).
  • He also took home two bronze medals. One was in the two-man event (2004). The other was in the four-man event (2007).

World Cup Achievements

André Lange also performed very well in the Bobsleigh World Cup. This is a series of races held throughout the season. He won several overall titles.

  • He won the combined men's championship three times (2000-01, 2002–03, 2003–04).
  • He won the two-man championship once (2007–08).
  • He won the four-man championship four times (2000-01, 2002–03, 2003–04, 2007–08).

After Retirement: Coaching and Leadership

After retiring from bobsleigh in 2010, André Lange continued to be involved in sports.

  • In April 2014, he became the head of the Thuringian Winter Sports Centre. This center is in Oberhof. It includes several important sports facilities. These are the DKB Ski Arena, the Oberhof sledding track, and ski jumps.
  • He left this role in May 2017.
  • In August 2017, he joined the South Korean luge team as a coach. He helped them prepare for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyongchang, South Korea. He worked with head coach Steffen Sartor.
