André Lange (born June 28, 1973) is a retired German bobsledder. He is known as one of the most successful bobsleigh pilots of all time! He competed in the 2002, 2006, and 2010 Winter Olympics. During these games, he won an amazing four gold medals and one silver medal. André first started his career in luge, which is a similar sport, before switching to bobsleigh in 1993.

Meet André Lange: Germany's Bobsleigh Champion

André Lange is a legendary figure in the world of bobsleigh. He was born in Ilmenau, Germany. He became famous for his incredible skill as a bobsleigh pilot. This means he was the person who steered the bobsled down the icy track. His career was full of exciting wins and many medals.

His Amazing Olympic Journey

André Lange showed his talent at the Winter Olympics. He competed in three different Olympic Games.

  • At the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, he won his first gold medal. This was in the four-man bobsleigh event. His teammates were Carsten Embach, Enrico Kühn, and Kevin Kuske.
  • The 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin were even better for André. He won two more gold medals! He took gold in both the two-man and four-man events. His four-man team included Kevin Kuske, René Hoppe, and Martin Putze. Kevin Kuske was also his partner for the two-man win.
  • At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, André continued his success. He won another gold medal in the two-man event. He also earned a silver medal in the four-man event.

World Championship Wins

Besides the Olympics, André Lange also won many medals at the FIBT World Championships. These championships bring together the best bobsledders from around the world. He won a total of fourteen medals there!

  • He earned eight gold medals.
    • In the two-man event, he won gold in 2003, 2007, and 2008.
    • In the four-man event, he won gold in 2000, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2008.
  • He also won four silver medals and two bronze medals at these championships.

Bobsleigh World Cup Success

André Lange was also a champion in the Bobsleigh World Cup. This is a series of races held throughout the season. Winning the World Cup means you are the best overall performer.

  • He won the combined men's championship three times (2000-01, 2002–03, 2003–04).
  • He won the two-man championship once (2007–08).
  • He won the four-man championship four times (2000-01, 2002–03, 2003–04, 2007–08).

Life After Racing

André Lange retired from bobsleigh racing in 2010. After his amazing career, he continued to be involved in winter sports.

  • In 2014, he became the head of the Thuringian Winter Sports Centre in Oberhof. This center includes important sports facilities like ski jumps and a bobsleigh track.
  • He left this role in 2017.
  • Later in 2017, he joined the South Korean luge team as a coach. He helped them get ready for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyongchang, South Korea.
