Roland "Andy" Bennett Anderson OBE (October 23, 1913 – December 9, 2010) was an important American leader. He was a retired major general in the U.S. Army. After his military career, he served as the 7th mayor of Naples, Florida. He held this position from 1978 until 1982.

Early Life and Military Service
Roland "Andy" Anderson was born on October 23, 1913. He first attended the University of Oklahoma. Later, he graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1938. West Point is a famous school for training Army officers.
During World War II, Andy Anderson served as an officer. He worked with anti-aircraft weapons in the Pacific region. After the war, he joined the Pentagon's Chief of Ordnance office. The Pentagon is the headquarters for the U.S. military. He even worked in Peru for a time.
Anderson was promoted to Assistant Chief of Staff G-4. This role meant he helped manage supplies and equipment for the U.S. Army in Europe. He made sure soldiers had the weapons they needed. When he returned to the United States, he became the Director of Army Procurement. This job involved buying all the supplies for the Army. He retired from the U.S. Army as a Major General.
He received many awards for his service. These included the Purple Heart (given to soldiers wounded in battle), the Distinguished Service Medal, and the Legion of Merit. He also received the Order of the British Empire from the United Kingdom.
Becoming Mayor of Naples
After retiring from the Army in 1971, Andy Anderson moved to Naples, Florida. He decided to get involved in local government. He was elected to the District School Board of Collier County. He also served on the Naples City Council.
His commitment to his community led him to become the 7th Mayor of Naples. He served as mayor from 1978 to 1982.
Later Years
Andy Anderson passed away on December 9, 2010. He was 97 years old. He was survived by his girlfriend, Lee Craft. He also had three children: Audrey Joan Anderson, Roland Bruce Anderson, and Gene Cristina Anderson. He had six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. His wife, Gene Cox Anderson, passed away in 1999. They had been married for 55 years.
