Playing Career Highlights
Andy Millen was born in Glasgow, Scotland. Early in his career, he helped Hamilton Academical win the Scottish Challenge Cup twice. While playing for Kilmarnock, he played one game for the Scotland B team.
Setting a Record for Age
Millen became famous for playing professional football at an older age than most players. On May 5, 2007, he played for St Mirren against Dundee United. This made him the oldest player to ever play in the Scottish Premier League. He was 41 years and 329 days old. He broke the record set by Aberdeen goalkeeper Jim Leighton. Many people thought Millen's record was even more impressive because he played as an outfield player, which is usually more physically demanding than being a goalkeeper.
His last league game was on March 15, 2008, against Hearts. At that time, he was 42 years and 279 days old. This made his record for the oldest player in the SPL almost a full year older than the previous record.
Success with St Mirren
During his time with St Mirren, Andy Millen helped the team win the Scottish Challenge Cup and the Scottish First Division in the 2005–06 season. He also won the Renfrewshire Cup twice with them.
