When Angela was nine, her family moved to Compton, California. She traveled across town to attend a private school called Brentwood School in Brentwood. This long trip showed her many different parts of Los Angeles.

As a teenager, Angela learned to balance life in both Compton and Brentwood. After high school, she went to Amherst College in Massachusetts. She also studied abroad at Oxford University in Oxford, England.
