Angela Onwuachi-Willig, born in 1973, is an American legal expert. She is a top leader and professor at Boston University School of Law. She is an expert in important areas of law. These include how race affects laws (critical race theory). She also studies fairness in jobs (employment discrimination) and rules about families (family law). She started at Boston University in August 2018. Before that, she was a special professor at the University of California, Berkeley.
Early Life and Education
Angela grew up in Texas, USA. She went to Grinnell College for her first degree. She graduated in 1994 with high honors.
She then earned her law degree from the University of Michigan in 1997. There, she was a special scholar. She also helped edit the Michigan Law Review. She was an editor for the first issue of the Michigan Journal of Race & Law.
After law school, she worked for two judges. She also earned a Ph.D. from Yale University. Her Ph.D. was in sociology and African American studies. She practiced law in Cleveland, Ohio, and Boston, Massachusetts. She focused on labor and employment law.
Career Highlights
Angela Onwuachi-Willig joined the faculty at the University of Iowa College of Law in 2006. In 2011, she was considered for a spot on the Iowa Supreme Court. She was the youngest person nominated. She was also the only woman and only person of color among the nominees. She was not chosen for the position.
Later, she became a Chancellor's Professor of Law at the University of California, Berkeley. In 2018, she was chosen to be the new dean of Boston University School of Law. This means she became the head of the law school.
