About Angela Tosheva

Angela Tosheva finished her music studies at the Sofia Academy of Music in 1984. A very important moment for her was meeting the famous musician Gyorgy Sebok. She met him during his summer music classes in Hungary and Switzerland. She also studied with Ketil Haugsand.

Her Doctoral Degree

In 1991, Angela Tosheva earned her doctoral degree. Her special study was about "The Theory of interpretation in chamber music." She worked on this for five years while teaching chamber music at the Academy of Music in Sofia. She was an assistant to Professor Dimitar Kozev.

As a Performer

Angela Tosheva has played many solo and chamber music concerts. She has performed in Bulgaria and in many countries around the world. She plays a wide range of music, from very old composers like William Byrd to modern ones like Ligeti. She also loves to play music by Bulgarian composers. This makes her a big supporter of new music in Bulgaria.

People say her playing is a special mix of being very careful and also very flexible. Her music comes from a deep and lively "Slavonic" sound. This sound helps her play with a pure and clear vision.

She has performed in the USA, Canada, Brazil, Portugal, Ireland, Norway, France, Italy, Russia, and Turkey. In 1996, she led a special music class in Bordeaux, France. In 1997, a university in São Paulo, Brazil, invited her to teach about modern music. She also gave twelve concerts there.

As an Editor

Angela Tosheva works as an editor with Michail Goleminov. To celebrate the 200th birthdays of famous composers Chopin and Schumann, their company, Orange Factory, published some books in Bulgarian. These books were Regard Sur Chopin and Schumann by André Boucourechliev.

Awards and Prizes

Angela Tosheva has won many awards for her musical talent.

  • In 1978, she won first prize at an international competition in Salerno.
  • She received the Usti and Labem Award when she was 12 years old.
  • In 1988, she won first prize at the Bulgarian Liszt-Bartók Competition.
  • In 1997, she received the "Golden Feather" award from Classic FM Sofia radio.
  • In 2010, she received an award from the Polish Institute in Sofia for the Chopin year.
  • Also in 2010, she and Michail Goleminov won an award from the Bulgarian "Salon of Arts." This was for his multimedia art project "Schuman-Oracle" and her concerts celebrating Schumann's 200th birthday.

Orange Factory

In 2003, Angela Tosheva and composer Michail Goleminov started The Orange Factory Psychoacoustic Arts. This is a special studio and publishing company in Sofia, Bulgaria. They work on experimental music and multimedia projects.
