Angelita Rosal, also known as Angie Rosal Bengtsson, was born in 1956. She is an American former professional table tennis player and coach. Her mother was from the Spirit Lake Tribe (Dakota people), and her father was Filipino.

Angelita Rosal is special because she was the first woman to be included in both the Indian Athletic Hall of Fame and the United States of America Table Tennis Hall of Fame. She was especially good at playing doubles, winning four US titles with a partner.

Playing Table Tennis

Angelita Rosal started playing table tennis when she was just nine or ten years old. She went to her first United States Olympic Training Center in 1967, when she was eleven. She quickly showed how good she was at winning matches.

Early Wins and Championships

In 1968, Angelita won the national championship for players under thirteen years old. The next year, she won the championship for players under fifteen. She kept doing well in the sport.

Over her career, she competed in ten USA Table Tennis National titles. She was very successful in doubles matches. She won the U.S. National Table Tennis Champions title three times with He-ja Lee (in 1978, 1979, and 1980). She also won it once with Jin Na in 1982.

Awards and Recognition

Angelita Rosal has received important honors for her achievements in table tennis.

  • 1973: She was the first female chosen for the Indian Athletic Hall of Fame.
  • 1996: She was added to the United States of America Table Tennis Hall of Fame.

About Angelita's Life

Angelita Rosal was born to a Filipino father and a Sioux mother. She was one of seven children in her family. Two of her brothers and sisters, Chris and Monica, also played table tennis well.

Family and Moving

Her family lived on the Fort Totten, North Dakota reservation. However, they moved to San Diego before Angelita turned eleven.

In 1975, while she was in Kolkata, she became ill with typhoid. She also had a religious experience around that time. She married Tom Sistruck and had her first child, Suco Li, in 1977. Later, in 1985, she married Stellan Bengtsson. They have twin sons named Chris and Sam. Angelita also has two grandchildren, Miles and Monico.
