Playing in Italy: Early Years
Sormani moved to Italy and made his debut in Serie A in 1961. He played for A.C. Mantova for two seasons, from 1961 to 1963. During this time, he showed how talented he was. People even started calling him "the white Pelé" because of his skills.
His great performances caught the eye of bigger clubs. In 1963, he joined A.S. Roma for the 1963–64 season. This was a very expensive transfer at the time. He won the Coppa Italia with Roma. However, he didn't always play as well as he had at Mantova.
After a challenging season, Sormani played for U.C. Sampdoria during the 1964–65 season. He also found this period difficult.
