Even though he wasn't the fastest player, Angelo was strong, smart, and very skilled with the ball. He was known for being able to play in many different roles on the field. He was also powerful and determined. Angelo was great at starting attacks because he could pass the ball very well. Angelo Sormani's Club Career
Angelo Sormani started his football journey in his home country, Brazil. He played for a famous team called Santos FC. At Santos, he was often a backup player for the legendary Pelé. But Angelo was so good and could play in so many positions that he still managed to get into the main team.
Playing in Italy
In 1961, Angelo moved to Italy to play in the top league, Serie A. He first joined A.C. Mantova and played there for two seasons. He showed off his amazing talent and potential, earning the nickname "the white Pelé."
His great performances caught the eye of bigger clubs. In 1963, he moved to A.S. Roma. This transfer was a really big deal at the time. It cost 500 million Lire, which was a world record for a football player! Roma also gave Mantova three other players as part of the deal. Angelo played one season with Roma and helped them win the Coppa Italia (Italian Cup).
After a tough season with Roma, Angelo played for U.C. Sampdoria in the 1964–65 season. He faced some challenges there too.
Success with A.C. Milan
In 1965, Angelo Sormani joined A.C. Milan, and this is where he really shined! He became one of the best players in the league. With Milan, he won many important trophies:
- The 1967–68 Serie A title (the Italian league championship).
- The Coppa Italia in the 1966–67 season.
- The 1967–68 European Cup Winners' Cup (a big European competition).
- The 1968–69 European Cup (now known as the UEFA Champions League, the biggest club competition in Europe!).
- The 1969 Intercontinental Cup (a match between the best teams from Europe and South America).
Later Career
After his very successful time at Milan, Angelo moved to S.S.C. Napoli in 1970, where he played for two seasons. Then, he spent the 1972–73 season with ACF Fiorentina. In 1973, he joined Vicenza Calcio and played there for three seasons before ending his playing career in 1976.
Angelo Sormani's International Career
Even though Angelo Sormani was born in Brazil, he had Italian family roots. His grandparents were Italian immigrants. Because of this, he was able to get Italian citizenship.
He played for the Italy national team seven times between 1962 and 1963, scoring two goals. He even represented Italy at the 1962 FIFA World Cup in Chile. Unfortunately, Italy was knocked out in the first round of that tournament.
