Anglès is a small town in Catalonia, a region in Spain. It's located in the province of Girona, within an area called Selva. The town covers about 16.3 square kilometers. In 2018, around 5,519 people lived there.

A Look at Anglès's History
The Fishing Society of Anglès
In May 1956, a special group was formed called the Society of Sport Fishermen of Anglès and Comarca, or SPEDAC. This group is still very active today.
Two important people, Joaquim Bauxell i Costa and Pere Buxó i Domènech, helped create an anthem for the society. It's a traditional Catalan dance song called a sardana, with lyrics titled "Anant a la Pesca" (Going Fishing).
Fishing Competitions and Conservation
The Fishing Society often holds big fishing competitions. One of these happens every year during the Anglès Galas, which is a local festival. Sometimes, as many as 200 fishermen join in!
The society also works hard to protect the fish in the local rivers. They help keep the fish populations healthy by adding new fish species like black bass, carp, trout, and catfish. This helps keep the river ecosystems balanced.

Remedios Varo: Surrealist Painter
Anglès is the birthplace of Remedios Varo Uranga. She was born in 1908 and became a very famous Surrealist painter. Her unique and dreamlike artworks are known around the world.
