The Anheuser-Busch Brewery is a famous place where beer is made in St. Louis, Missouri. It's a huge complex of buildings that has been around for a long time!
This brewery was started in 1852 by a German immigrant named Adolphus Busch. It's so important that it's been named a National Historic Landmark District. This means it's a special place recognized for its history.
Discover the Brewery on a Tour!
You can take a free tour of the brewery! It's a great way to see how beer is made and packaged. You'll walk through different parts of the complex.
If you are old enough (the legal drinking age), you can even try two free glasses of an Anheuser-Busch drink after the tour. It's a fun way to learn about how drinks are made.
Meet the Famous Clydesdales!
One of the coolest things to see at the brewery is the famous Budweiser Clydesdales. These are huge, beautiful draft horses. Long ago, in the 1800s, these horses pulled wagons full of beer.
You can watch the Clydesdales in their exercise field. You can also see their special home, called the carriage house. It's amazing to see these gentle giants up close!
Some of these special horses live at a farm called Grant's Farm in St. Louis County. This farm used to belong to former President Ulysses S. Grant. It's also home to many other animals like elephants and tortoises!
Since 2008, about half of the Budweiser Clydesdales live at Warm Springs Ranch. This ranch is near Booneville, Missouri.
A Historic and Important Place
The Anheuser-Busch Brewery was named a U.S. National Historic Landmark in 1966. This shows how important the company has been in making and selling beer in the United States.
The landmark area covers a huge space, about 142 acres. It has 189 different buildings! Many of them are made of red brick in a style called Romanesque. They have cool square towers and fancy details.
The Brew House, built in 1891-1892, is especially famous. It has tall chandeliers shaped like hops (a plant used in beer). It also has amazing iron-work and uses lots of natural light. It's a truly beautiful and historic building!
