Meet the Budweiser Clydesdales
One of the most exciting things about the Anheuser-Busch Brewery is the Budweiser Clydesdales. These are huge, beautiful draft horses. Long ago, in the 1800s, these strong horses pulled wagons filled with drinks. Today, they are a famous symbol of the company.
You can often see some of these amazing horses at the brewery's headquarters. Visitors can watch them in their exercise field. You can also see where they live in the carriage house. It's a great chance to see these gentle giants up close!
Where Else Do Clydesdales Live?
Some of the Budweiser Clydesdales live at a special farm in St. Louis County. This farm is called Grant's Farm. It used to belong to a former President, Ulysses S. Grant. Besides the Clydesdales, Grant's Farm is home to many other animals. You might see elephants, tortoises, and different kinds of mammals there.
Since 2008, about half of the Budweiser Clydesdales have lived at the Warm Springs Ranch. This ranch is located near Booneville, Missouri.
A Look at History: The Lyon Schoolhouse Museum
On the brewery grounds, you can find the Lyon Schoolhouse Museum. This building is one of the oldest schoolhouses in St. Louis. After 1907, it became the main office for the brewery.
Today, the museum holds many special items from the company's past. You can see old pictures of the brewery. These photos show how much it has grown over the years. It's like a trip back in time!
A National Historic Landmark
The Anheuser-Busch Brewery became a U.S. National Historic Landmark in 1966. This honor recognizes its important role in the history of making and sharing drinks in the United States. The landmark area includes 189 buildings. Many of these are the red brick Romanesque buildings with their unique towers and details.
The Brew House, built in 1891-1892, is especially cool. It has tall hop chandeliers and fancy ironwork. It also uses natural light in a very clever way.
