Anicia Peters is a brilliant computer scientist from Namibia. She is an expert in human–computer interaction (HCI). This field studies how people use computers and technology. Currently, she is the CEO of the National Commission of Research, Science and Technology (NCRST).

Early Life and Schooling

Anicia Peters was born in a town called Rehoboth, Namibia. When she was about 8 years old, her family moved to Windhoek. She went to primary school and then Concordia College there.

She studied at the Namibia University of Science and Technology. She earned two degrees with great honors. One was a National Diploma in Business Computing. The other was a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) in Business Computing. For her B.Tech. degree, she won special awards for being an outstanding student.

Anicia then went to Iowa State University in the United States. There, she earned her Master of Science (MSc) and PhD degrees. Both were in human–computer interaction. She received scholarships and awards for her research. Her PhD work focused on how people use technology.

In 2012, she became a Google Anita Borg scholar. This is a special award for women in technology. She also worked at Intuit in Silicon Valley. She was a user experience (UX) researcher there. This means she helped make technology easier and better for people to use.

Career in Technology and Education

In 2015, Anicia Peters became a leader at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST). She was the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Computing and Informatics. This made her the first Namibian dean at NUST. She helped create a special IT center there.

She also started many important projects in Namibia. These include the Namibia Women in Computing conference. She also helped set up chapters of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). One of these is for women in computing (ACM-W).

Anicia also helped organize big international conferences. She co-chaired the first Africa Human Computer Interaction Conference (AfriCHI). This event brought together experts from across Africa.

From 2020 to 2022, she worked at the University of Namibia. She was in charge of research and new ideas. In 2021, the President of Namibia asked her to lead a special team. This team focused on the Fourth Industrial Revolution. This is about new technologies like artificial intelligence.

Since December 2022, Anicia Peters has been the CEO of the National Commission of Research, Science and Technology (NCRST). She helps guide science and technology in Namibia. She is also married and has four children.
