UNAM has many different areas of study, called faculties and schools. These are like different departments where students learn about specific subjects.

Here are some of the main areas you can study:

  • Agriculture and Natural Resources

  • Medicine (to become a doctor)

  • Military Science (for those interested in defense)
  • Postgraduate Studies (for advanced degrees)

UNAM is known as one of the best universities in Africa. In 2023, it was ranked among the top 20 universities on the continent. It is also the only place in the world where you can get a special advanced degree in the Khoekhoe language.

Engineering and IT Campus

The Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FOET) started on January 1, 2008. Before that, it was part of the Faculty of Science.

The first president of Namibia, Sam Nujoma, helped start the building of the FOET campus. This happened in Ongwediva on November 17, 2007. The town of Ongwediva gave UNAM a large piece of land for the campus.

Building work began in April 2008. They built classrooms, offices for teachers, science labs, and computer rooms. They also built places for students to live and houses for staff. These buildings allowed the first students to start their studies at FOET.
