Sam Nujoma, who was the first president of Namibia and also the head of the university at the time, started the building work for this faculty. This happened in Ongwediva on November 17, 2007. The town of Ongwediva gave UNAM a large piece of land for the new buildings.
In January 2008, the government approved money to build the first part of the new Engineering and Information Technology faculty. Construction began in April 2008. They built classrooms, offices for teachers, science labs, computer facilities, student dorms, and other important buildings. When these buildings were finished, the first group of students could start their studies there.
