Francine Furaha Muyumba was born on February 18, 1987. She is an activist and politician from Congo. She is currently a Senator in Congo's government. Before this, she led the Panafrican Youth Union, which is the official youth group for the African Union.

Early Life and Student Leadership
Francine Muyumba studied at the University of Namibia. In 2011, she earned a degree in Arts. While there, she was very active in student government.
She was elected president of the Student Representative Council (SRC). This made her the first international student to hold this important position. During her time in Namibia, she also helped coordinate the United Nations Association.
After her studies, Francine returned to her home country, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). From 2012 to 2014, she worked to help young people there. She often speaks about youth issues, even at the United Nations.
She also led the National Federation of Youth Entrepreneurs of the DRC. She helped young people in the Great Lakes region of Africa get involved in peace talks. This work made her a strong voice for youth rights.
Leading the Panafrican Youth Union
In 2014, Francine Muyumba was elected president of the Panafrican Youth Union (PYU). The PYU represents all African youth under 35 years old. This age group makes up 65 percent of Africa's population.
As president, Francine worked to bring young people closer to decision-making. She helped young voices be heard in important political discussions across Africa. She was the main person speaking for youth issues to the African Union.
Francine also worked with the African Union chairwoman, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma. Together, they helped create funds to support youth development across Africa.
She is a strong supporter of peace. Francine believes that creating jobs for young people helps bring peace and stability to Africa. She also spoke to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon about issues facing African youth.
She was the first PYU president to speak at the UN General Assembly. This was a big step for African youth. She also worked closely with the United Nations Envoy on Youth.
Francine helped the PYU work more with international groups. She connected their goals with the African Union's Agenda 2063. She also linked them to the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda of the United Nations.
She often speaks at international events for youth and women. In 2015, she spoke at many important gatherings. These included the Global Summit of Women and the United Nations General Assembly. She also met with leaders in Washington D.C. to help African youth development.
In May 2018, Francine attended an economic forum in Russia. She talked about how the world needs Africa, and Africa needs the world. She resigned from the PYU in November 2019. This was to start her new role in the Congolese senate.
Political Career
In March 2019, Francine Muyumba was elected to the Congolese Senate. She represents the Haut-Katanga Province. At 32 years old, she was one of the youngest people elected to this body.
Personal Life
Francine Muyumba lives in Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In July 2019, she married Patrick Nkanga. He was a spokesperson for Congo's former ruling party.
