The Story of Anime Banzai
Anime Banzai started in 2004. It was created by the "End of the World" Japanese Animation Club at Salt Lake Community College. The very first convention in 2005 was a huge success! Over 600 people came, even though the organizers expected less than 300.
Because so many people loved it, the convention quickly grew. It moved to bigger places over the years.
- For the first two years, it was held at Salt Lake Community College.
- Then, it moved to the Sheraton City Centre Hotel for three years.
- Finally, it moved to the Davis Conference Center in Layton, Utah, where it is held now. This bigger space helps welcome all the growing number of fans!
The convention helps the local economy by bringing visitors to the area. For example, in 2012, it brought in almost half a million dollars!
Anime Banzai hopes to return to Salt Lake City someday. However, they need an even bigger space. The current venues are getting too small for the convention's popularity. They are looking for a new, larger place that can fit everyone.
Sadly, Anime Banzai 2020 had to be canceled. This was due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused many events around the world to be put on hold for safety.
