Ann Mara (born June 18, 1929 – died February 1, 2015) was an important American woman. She was known as a businesswoman and someone who helped others. Ann was married to Wellington Mara, who was a famous owner of the New York Giants football team. She was also the head of the Mara family. This family includes her son, John Mara, who is now the CEO of the Giants. Her granddaughters, Rooney Mara and Kate Mara, are well-known actresses.

Ann Mara's Life Story
Early Life and Family
Ann Mara was born Ann Maria Teresa Mumm in Manhattan, New York City. Her parents were Olive and George Mumm. Ann had a mix of German, French-Canadian, and Irish family roots.
In 1954, Ann married Wellington Mara. He was born in 1916 and passed away in 2005. Together, Ann and Wellington had a large family. They had eleven children, seven girls and four boys. Later, they had 42 grandchildren. All of their daughters went to the Convent of the Sacred Heart school.
Meeting Wellington Mara
Ann and Wellington Mara met in a special way. They both regularly attended a 7:30 AM church service. One morning, a woman fainted during the Mass. Both Ann and Wellington quickly rushed to help her.
After this meeting, they started dating. Some of their first dates were at famous sports places. They went to Yankee Stadium, Madison Square Garden, and the Fordham gymnasium. Ann and Wellington got married in 1954. They spent their honeymoon in Southern California.
"First Lady of Football"
Ann Mara's husband, Wellington Mara, was a very important person in the National Football League (NFL). He owned the New York Giants team. Many people believe he was one of the most influential figures in the history of the NFL.
Because of her husband's role, Ann Mara was often called the "First Lady of Football." She was also a generous person who gave money to many good causes. For example, in November 2014, she helped open a new building. This building was for the San Miguel Academy, which helps children who are at risk. The NFL Snowflake Foundation helped build it.
Ann Mara in the Media
Ann Mara was an active part of the Giants community. She often attended games and events. In 2012, she received attention from the media. This happened after she had a friendly discussion with Terry Bradshaw, a famous football player and commentator.
Ann Mara's Passing
Ann Mara was generally in good health. However, she had an accident when she fell on ice. This happened outside her home in Harrison, New York, as she was getting her newspaper. Her housekeeper usually got the paper, but on that day, Ann went herself.
Two weeks after her fall, Ann Mara passed away from pneumonia. She died on February 1, 2015, at 85 years old. She was remembered in a special way. A moment of silence was held for her during Super Bowl XLIX. Also, during the next football season, the New York Giants wore a special patch on their uniforms. This patch had the letters "ATM" in black on a white circle. It was worn near the shoulders to honor her memory.
