John Kevin Mara (born December 1, 1954) is an American businessman. He is the president, CEO (Chief Executive Officer), and co-owner of the New York Giants football team.

Early Life and School

Mara was born in New York City. He grew up in White Plains, a town near the city. He is the oldest son of Ann Mara and Wellington Mara. His father was also an owner of the Giants.

John Mara went to Iona Preparatory School. He then studied at Boston College, graduating in 1976. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing. Later, he got his law degree from Fordham University School of Law in 1979. Before joining the Giants, he worked as a lawyer in New York City. He focused on laws about jobs and workers.

John Mara joined the New York Giants in 1991. He first worked as the team's main lawyer. Later, he became an executive vice president. When his father passed away in 2005, John Mara became the team's president.

Mara worked with Steve Tisch to plan and build MetLife Stadium. This stadium is where the Giants play their home games. It opened in 2010.

Under the leadership of Mara and Tisch, the Giants won two major championships. They won Super Bowl XLII and Super Bowl XLVI. These were big wins for the team and their fans.

Working with the NFL

Beyond his role with the Giants, Mara has been very active in the National Football League (NFL). He has served for 15 years on the NFL Competition Committee. This group suggests new rules and policies for all NFL teams.

He is also the current chairman of the NFL Management Council Executive Committee. He helped with important talks for player contracts in 2011 and 2020. Mara, along with Steve Tisch and Woody Johnson, also helped bring Super Bowl XLVIII to MetLife Stadium in February 2014.

Family and Interests

John Mara is the third generation of his family to own the Giants. His grandfather, Tim Mara, started the team in 1925. Tim's sons, Wellington and Jack Mara, took over the team in 1959. The Giants are one of the few NFL teams that have stayed in the same family for a very long time. Only the Chicago Bears have been owned by one family longer.

John Mara is married to Denise W. Mara. They have one son, John Jr., and four daughters: Lauren, Courtney, Christine, and Erin. He is also the uncle of actresses Rooney Mara and Kate Mara.

Mara is involved in community work. He serves on the board of directors for Saint Vincent's Hospital in Harrison, New York. He also helps with Boys Hope Girls Hope of New York, a charity for young people.
