Career with the Giants
Joining the Team
John Mara officially joined the New York Giants in 1991. At first, he was the team's main lawyer. Later, he became an executive vice president and chief operating officer. This meant he helped manage many parts of the team's daily business.
In 2005, after his father Wellington Mara passed away, John took over as the team's president.
Building a New Stadium
John Mara worked closely with Steve Tisch, another co-owner, to plan and build MetLife Stadium. This huge stadium opened in 2010 and is where the Giants play their home games. It was a big project that needed a lot of planning and talks.

The Giants are one of the few NFL teams that have stayed in the same family for a very long time. Only the Chicago Bears have been owned by one family for even longer.
