Anna Muylaert is a talented Brazilian filmmaker. She is known for directing, producing, and writing movies and TV shows. Anna was born on April 21, 1964, in São Paulo, Brazil.

Anna's Early Life and Learning
Anna Muylaert studied filmmaking at the University of São Paulo (USP) from 1980 to 1984. After her studies, she started working as a film critic. This means she wrote reviews and opinions about movies for magazines like IstoÉ and newspapers like O Estado de S. Paulo.
In 1988, she joined the team of a TV show called TV Mix at Rede Gazeta. Later, in 1999, she worked as an editor and reporter for Matéria-Prima on TV Cultura. Anna also wrote scripts for popular children's TV programs. These included Mundo da Lua (from 1991 to 1992) and Castelo Rá-Tim-Bum (from 1994 to 1997).
Anna's Directing Journey
Before making full-length movies, Anna Muylaert directed six short films. These short films won awards at festivals like Rio Cine and Cine Ceará.
Her first feature film was Durval Discos, released in 2002. This movie was a big success! It won seven awards at the Festival de Gramado, including Best Director and Best Film.
Seven years later, in 2009, she released her second film, É Proibido Fumar. This movie also won many awards, taking home eight prizes at the Festival de Brasília. These awards included Best Screenplay and Best Film.
In 2012, Anna directed Chamada a Cobrar. This film was based on a TV movie she had also directed in 2010.
Her fourth film, The Second Mother, was shown at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival. It also premiered at the Berlinale film festival, where it won the Audience Award.
Anna's 2016 film, Don't Call Me Son, was first shown at the 66th Berlin International Film Festival.
