Anna's Curling Journey
Anna Sloan started her curling career playing as the "third" for Eve Muirhead's junior team. In 2009, they won the World Junior Curling Championships for Scotland. This was a great start to her professional journey.
Early Successes
In 2010, Anna earned a silver medal at the European Championships. She was an alternate player for the Muirhead team. Around the same time, Anna also led her own women's curling team. She even beat Muirhead's team to win the 2011 Scottish Championships.
Before her first World Championship, Anna won another World Junior Championship in 2011. She was still playing as the third for the Muirhead junior team. Just two weeks later, she led the Scottish team at the World Championships.
Anna also led Great Britain to gold medals in other big events. These included the 2009 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival and the 2011 Winter Universiade.
Playing with Team Muirhead
From the 2011-2012 season onwards, Anna played as the third for the main Muirhead team. Together, they achieved amazing things. They won the European Championships in 2011 and the World Championships in 2013. This was Scotland's first world title in women's curling since 2002.
The team also won silver medals at the European Championships in 2012 and 2013. The 2013 World Champion team included Muirhead, Sloan, Vicki Adams, and Claire Hamilton. This strong team was chosen to represent Great Britain at the 2014 Winter Olympics.
Olympic Achievements
At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Anna and her team won a bronze medal. This was a huge achievement for them and for Great Britain. They continued to compete at the highest level.
At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, the team finished in fourth place. Lauren Gray joined the team for these games. After the 2017-2018 curling season, Anna decided to take a break from the sport.
Life Outside Curling
Anna Sloan studied sport and active lifestyle promotion at Glasgow Caledonian University. She received a special award called the Winning Student award to help her with her studies. Today, Anna lives in Stirling, Scotland.
