Eve Muirhead, born on April 22, 1990, is a famous Scottish curler. She was the skip (team captain) for the British Olympic Curling team. Eve and her team won the gold medal at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. Before that, they earned a bronze medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
As the skip for Scotland, Eve won the 2011 European Curling Championships, the 2013 World Women's Curling Championship, the 2017 European Curling Championships, and the 2021 European Curling Championships. She also won the World Junior Curling Championships four times (in 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2011). Eve competed in four Winter Olympics: Vancouver 2010, Sochi 2014, Pyeongchang 2018, and Beijing 2022. She was even a flag bearer for Great Britain at the 2022 Opening Ceremony. In Sochi, she became the youngest skip ever to win an Olympic curling medal. She played for the Dunkeld Curling Club in Pitlochry.
Eve Muirhead announced her retirement from curling on August 11, 2022. She now coaches the Fay Henderson curling team.

Eve Muirhead's Curling Journey
Junior World Champion
Eve Muirhead was born in Perth, Scotland. She first showed her talent at the 2007 World Junior Curling Championships. There, she played as a "third" (a team position) and helped her team win the gold medal.
In 2008, Eve became the skip of her own Scottish junior team. They won every game at the Scottish junior women's championship. At the 2008 World Junior Curling Championships in Sweden, her team beat Sweden 12–3 in the final.
Eve returned to the 2009 World Junior Curling Championships in Vancouver. This was at the same place where the 2010 Winter Olympics would be held. Her team faced Canada in the final and won 8–6. This made Eve a junior world champion skip for the second time in a row.
In December 2009, Eve was named the BBC Scotland Young Sports Personality of the Year. This award recognized her amazing achievements in curling.
She missed the 2010 World Juniors because she was busy with the Olympics. But she came back strong at the 2011 World Junior Curling Championships in Scotland. Eve won her fourth gold medal at the World Juniors, which was a record! She beat Canada's team 10–3 in the final.
Olympic Highlights

Eve was chosen as the skip for the Great Britain Women's curling team at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Her team won three out of nine games and did not make it to the semi-finals.
She continued as skip for the Great Britain team at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Her team won the bronze medal after beating Switzerland 6–5. This made her the youngest skip ever to win an Olympic medal in curling.
Eve was again the skip for the British team at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea. Her team won six games and lost three, which got them into the semi-finals. They lost to Sweden and then lost the bronze medal game to Japan, finishing in fourth place.
At the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China, Eve was once more the skip for the women's curling team. On the very last day of the Games, she led her team to a big 10–3 win over Japan. This victory earned her first-ever Olympic gold medal, which was also Great Britain's only gold medal at those Games!
World Championship Success
Eve Muirhead won a silver medal as the Scottish team skip at the 2010 Ford World Women's Curling Championship. They lost a close final game to Germany. Her team finished third in the first round of games.
Eve's team won the Scottish championship again in 2012. They finished sixth at the 2012 Ford World Women's Curling Championship. She won the Scottish championship for a fourth time in 2013. Her team then went on to win the 2013 World Women's Curling Championship. They beat Sweden in the final. This made Eve the youngest skip ever to win the World Women's Curling Championship.
She competed at the Worlds again in 2015, finishing fourth. In 2016, her team finished fifth. At the 2017 World Women's Curling Championship, Eve's team won the bronze medal.
Eve did not play at the World Championships again until 2021. The 2020 championship was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At the 2021 World Women's Curling Championship, Eve led Scotland to an eighth-place finish.
In 2022, Eve teamed up with fellow Scottish curler Bobby Lammie. Together, they won the 2022 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship.
Life After Retirement
In 2023, Eve Muirhead started coaching Fay Henderson's curling team part-time. This team includes Hailey Duff, who won the 2022 Olympic gold medal with Eve.
Eve was also chosen as the "Chef de Mission" for Team GB at the 2024 Winter Youth Olympics. In this role, she helped guide the British team to gold medals in both curling events. She will have the same important role for the main British team at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Personal Life and Interests
Eve Muirhead grew up in Blair Atholl, Scotland. She is also a very good golfer. She is an amazing bagpiper and has played at four World Championships.
In 2010, Eve became an ambassador for Piping Live! 2010. This is a festival all about playing the bagpipes. She even turned down offers to become a professional golfer from American universities. There is a painting of her with her curling broom, golf clubs, and bagpipes at the National Galleries Scotland. Eve helped open The National Curling Academy in Stirling in 2017.
In 2015, she found out she had coeliac disease. In 2018, she had hip surgery.
The University of Stirling gave Eve an honorary degree in 2018. She was also recognized for her services to curling with special awards from the British Empire in 2020 and 2022.
Eve's father, Gordon Muirhead, was also a curler who played internationally. Her two brothers, Glen and Thomas Muirhead, are also skilled curlers.
