Eve Muirhead (born April 22, 1990) is a famous Scottish former curler. She was the skip (the team leader who throws the last stones) for the British Olympic Curling team. Eve and her team made history by becoming Olympic champions at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. Before that, they also won a bronze medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

As the skip for the Scotland team, Eve won the European Championships in 2011, the World Championships in 2013, and more European Championships in 2017 and 2021. She is also an amazing four-time World Junior Champion, winning in 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2011.

Eve competed in four Winter Olympics: Vancouver 2010, Sochi 2014, Pyeongchang 2018, and Beijing 2022. At the 2022 Beijing Olympics, she was chosen as one of Great Britain's flag bearers for the opening ceremony. In Sochi, she became the youngest skip ever to win an Olympic medal in curling. She played for the Dunkeld Curling Club, located in Pitlochry.

Eve announced her retirement from curling on August 11, 2022. She now coaches the Fay Henderson curling team.

Eve's Curling Journey

Junior Success

Eve Muirhead was born in Perth, Scotland. She first showed her talent in curling at the 2007 World Junior Curling Championships in the USA. She played as a "third" (the player who throws the third stones) with skip Sarah Reid and won a gold medal!

In 2008, Eve became a skip herself for the Scottish junior women's championship. Her team won every game, which meant they qualified for the next junior world championship. At the 2008 World Junior Curling Championships in Sweden, Eve's team beat Sweden 12–3 in the final, making her a world junior champion skip.

She returned to the 2009 World Junior Curling Championships in Vancouver, Canada. This was the same place where the 2010 Winter Olympics would be held. She faced the Canadian team in the final and won 8–6. This made Eve a world junior champion skip for the second time in a row, and her third world junior championship overall.

In December 2009, Eve was named the BBC Scotland Young Sports Personality of the Year for her amazing achievements in curling.

Eve couldn't play at the World Juniors in 2010 because she was busy with the Olympics. But she came back strong at the 2011 World Junior Curling Championships in her home country, Scotland. Eve won the gold medal for a record-breaking fourth time in her career. Her team beat Canada 10–3 in the final.

Olympic Games

Eve was chosen to be the skip for the Great Britain Women's curling team at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. Her team won three out of nine games and didn't make it to the semi-finals. During one game, she accidentally broke her broom on the ice, which is a rare moment in curling!

Eve continued as skip for the Great Britain Women's curling team at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. She led her team to win the Bronze Medal by beating Switzerland 6–5 in the play-off game. This made her the youngest skip ever to win an Olympic medal in curling.

At the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, Eve again led the British team. They had a good record in the first round, qualifying for the semi-finals against Sweden. They lost that game and then also lost the bronze medal game to Japan, finishing in fourth place.

Eve was selected as skip for the Women's curling team once more at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China. On the very last day of the Games, she led her team to a fantastic 10–3 win over Japan. This victory earned her and her team their first-ever Olympic gold medal, which was also the only gold medal for Team GB at those Games!

World Championships

Eve Muirhead won a silver medal as the Scottish team skip at the 2010 Ford World Women's Curling Championship. Her team lost 8–6 to Germany in the final, which went into an extra end (an extra round of play).

In 2013, Eve won the Scottish championship for the fourth time. Her team then went on to play at the 2013 World Women's Curling Championship. They defeated Sweden in the final, making Eve the youngest skip ever to win the World Women's Curling Championship.

At the 2017 World Women's Curling Championship, Eve's team won the bronze medal.

In 2022, Eve teamed up with fellow Scottish curler and Olympic silver medallist Bobby Lammie. Together, they won the Mixed Doubles World Championship.

After Retirement

In 2023, Eve Muirhead started a part-time coaching job with Fay Henderson's curling team. This team includes Amy McDonald, Katie McMillan, and Hailey Duff, who won the 2022 Olympic gold medal with Eve!

Eve was also chosen to be the Chef de Mission (the head of the team) for Team GB at the 2024 Winter Youth Olympics. With her help, Great Britain won gold medals in both curling events there. She will also be the Chef de Mission for the main team at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

About Eve's Life

Eve Muirhead grew up in Blair Atholl, Scotland. She is also a very good golfer and plays at Pitlochry Golf Course. She is also an amazing bagpiper and has played her bagpipes at four World Championships!

In 2010, Eve was an ambassador for Piping Live! 2010, a festival all about playing the bagpipes. She even turned down offers to become a professional golfer from American universities to focus on curling. There's a painting of her with her curling broom, golf clubs, and bagpipes at the National Galleries Scotland. In 2017, Eve helped open The National Curling Academy in Stirling.

In 2015, she found out she had coeliac disease, and in 2018, she had hip surgery.

Eve has received special honors for her contributions to curling. She was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2020 and an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2022.

Eve comes from a family of curlers! Her father, Gordon Muirhead, was also an international curler. He competed in the 1992 Winter Olympics and won world silver medals. Eve also has two brothers, Glen and Thomas Muirhead, who are both talented curlers too.
