Annangrove is a suburb of Sydney, Australia. It is located about 42 kilometres north-west of the main Sydney central business district. Annangrove is part of an area called The Hills Shire and is known for its green spaces.

History of Annangrove

Annangrove got its name from a house called Annangrove House. This house belonged to Edward Charles Johnston. He was the grandson of George Johnston, who had received a large piece of land in what is now Annandale. George Johnston named his house Annandale after his hometown, Annan in Scotland. Edward Charles Johnston decided to use a similar name for his own house in this area.

Early Industries in Annangrove

The first main industry in Annangrove was cutting down trees for wood. Later, from the 1880s, the land was used to grow fruit in orchards. Edward Johnston bought his land in 1893. The local post office opened on October 16, 1895, and took the name Annangrove from his house. The school also started using the name in 1896.

  • The Sydney Zoroastrian Fire Temple is located at 196 Annangrove Road. This is a place of worship for followers of the Zoroastrian faith.
