Anne Lascaris (born November 1487 – died July 1554) was an important French noblewoman. She was known as the Countess of Tende and Villars. Her father was Jean-Antoine II de Lascaris, who was the Count of Tende and Ventimiglia, and the lord of Mentone. Her mother was Isabeau d'Anglure-Estoges.

Anne's Marriages and Family

Anne married twice. Her first marriage was at a very young age, around 11 and a half years old, to Louis de Clermont-Lodève. He was the Viscount of Nébousan.

On January 28, 1501, she married René of Savoy. He was also known as le Grand Bâtard de Savoie. René was a count, a governor of Nice and Provence, and an admiral of France.

Anne's Children

Anne and René had several children together:

  • Madeleine (around 1510 – around 1586). She became an important official at the royal court. Madeleine married Anne de Montmorency.
  • Claude of Savoy (born March 27, 1507 – died April 23, 1566). He became the Count of Tende.
  • Honorat II of Savoy (1509 – September 20, 1580). He became the Count of Villars and a Marshal of France in 1571. Honorat married Françoise de Foix.
  • Marguerite. She married Antoine II Luxembourg-Ligny, who was the Count of Brienne.
  • Isabeau. She married René de Batarnay, the Count of Bouchage.

Inheritance and Mentone

Anne's father passed away on August 13, 1509. Since he did not have any sons, his properties and titles were passed down to Anne. This made her a very wealthy and powerful noblewoman.

In 1515, Lucien, Lord of Monaco bought the rights to the city of Mentone from Anne Lascaris's family. This meant that Mentone became part of Monaco until the time of the French Revolution.
