Anne Patzwald (born on July 2, 1989, in Guben, East Germany) is a talented German wheelchair basketball player. She is known for being a 1.0 point player and for representing her country on the national team. Anne helped the German team win a silver medal at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro. After their success, the team received Germany's highest sporting award, the Silbernes Lorbeerblatt (Silver Laurel Leaf), from President Joachim Gauck.

Anne's Journey to Wheelchair Basketball
Anne Patzwald was born in Guben. After an accident, she became a paraplegic, which means she uses a wheelchair. Playing sports became an important part of her recovery. She thought about trying different sports like table tennis and badminton.
When Anne returned home, she discovered that one of her neighbors played wheelchair basketball. This inspired her to try it too, and she soon started playing in her local league.
Becoming a National Player
Anne is classified as a 1.0 point player in wheelchair basketball. This classification system helps make sure teams are fair and balanced. She quickly showed her skills and was chosen for the national under-25 team in 2013. The very next year, she joined the senior national team.
In 2015, Anne and her team won a gold medal at the European Wheelchair Basketball Championship in Worcester, England. This was a big achievement for them.
Paralympic Debut and Silver Medal
Anne made her first appearance at the Paralympic Games in 2016. The event took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The German team played incredibly well and earned a silver medal. This was a huge moment for Anne and her teammates.
In recognition of their outstanding performance, President Joachim Gauck honored the team with the Silbernes Lorbeerblatt (Silver Laurel Leaf) in 2016. This award is Germany's top honor for athletes.
Life Off the Court
Anne Patzwald also trained to become an occupational therapist. This job helps people learn or regain skills needed for daily living and work. She studied at a school in Bielefeld-Eckardtsheim
