Anne Gannet Stratton Miller Holden (born April 17, 1887 – died October 1, 1977) was an American composer. She is best known for her song “Boats of Mine,” which was very popular during her lifetime. She published her music using the name Anne Stratton.

Anne Stratton's Early Life and Education

Anne Stratton was born in Cleburne, Texas. Her parents were Mary Louise Baker and William H. Stratton. She married Robert Gardner Miller in 1909. Later, in 1922, she married Thomas Steele Holden. They had one son together.

Stratton studied music at the University of Texas. She also attended the Damrosch Conservatory, which is now known as the Juilliard School. Her teachers included Howard Brockway and Etta Wilson. She was a member of the sorority Kappa Kappa Gamma. She also belonged to the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), an organization that protects the rights of music creators.

Anne Stratton's Musical Career

Besides writing music, Anne Stratton also recorded music for piano rolls. Piano rolls were a way to play music automatically on a player piano. Her songs were published by companies like Harold Flammer (now Shawnee Press/Hal Leonard) and the Boston Music Company.
