Anne Wiazemsky (born May 14, 1947 – died October 5, 2017) was a talented French actress and writer. She started acting in movies when she was just 18 years old. Her first big role was Marie in the film Au Hasard Balthazar (1966).
Anne also starred in many films by the famous director Jean-Luc Godard. Some of these movies include La Chinoise (1967) and Week End (1967). She was also the granddaughter of the well-known writer François Mauriac.

Early Life and Family
Anne Wiazemsky was born in Berlin, Germany, on May 14, 1947. Her father, Yvan Wiazemsky, was a French diplomat. A diplomat is someone who represents their country in other nations. Her father was also a Russian prince whose family moved to France after the Russian Revolution.
Anne's mother, Claire Mauriac, was the daughter of François Mauriac. He was a very famous writer who even won the Nobel Prize in Literature.
Growing Up Around the World
Because her father was a diplomat, Anne spent her early years living in different countries. She lived in places like Geneva and Caracas. In 1962, her family moved back to Paris, France. She finished high school at Ecole Sainte Marie de Passy in Paris.

Acting Career
Anne Wiazemsky's first acting job was in the movie Au Hasard Balthazar (1966). She played the main character, Marie. She met the director, Robert Bresson, through another actress named Florence Delay.
The film was shown for the first time at the 1966 Venice Film Festival. It won several awards there. Many film critics now say it is one of the greatest films of all time. Jean-Luc Godard, a famous filmmaker, praised the movie a lot.
Working with Jean-Luc Godard
Anne later started a relationship with Jean-Luc Godard. They got married in 1967. She acted in many of his films, including La Chinoise (1967) and Week End (1967). She also appeared in One Plus One (1968).
In the 1980s, Anne started working behind the camera. She helped write a movie script called Go Home in 1994. She also began directing television documentaries.
Writing Career
Besides acting, Anne Wiazemsky also wrote several novels. Some of her books include Canines (1993) and Une Poignée de Gens (1998). She also wrote Aux Quatre Coins du Monde (2001).
One of her novels, Hymnes à l'Amour, was made into a movie in 2003. It was called All the Fine Promises. Her book Jeune Fille (2007) was about her own experiences acting in Au Hasard Balthazar.
Later Novels and Film Adaptations
In 2015, Anne wrote a novel called Un An Après (which means "One Year After"). This book told the story of her time filming Godard's movie La Chinoise. It also covered how their relationship changed.
This novel was later made into a movie called Le Redoubtable. The director of The Artist, Michel Hazanavicius, directed it. In the film, Anne Wiazemsky was played by actress Stacy Martin.
Personal Life
During the filming of Au Hasard Balthazar in 1966, the director Robert Bresson asked Anne to marry him several times. However, she said no. In 1967, she married Jean-Luc Godard. She then starred in many of his films. Their marriage officially ended in divorce in 1979, but they had separated earlier, around 1970.
Death
Anne Wiazemsky passed away on October 5, 2017, at the age of 70. She died from breast cancer.
