Anne of Bohemia and Austria (born April 12, 1432 – died November 13, 1462) was an important noblewoman in Europe. She was the Duchess of Luxembourg in her own right. This means she inherited the title and ruled the land herself. She was also a Landgravine of Thuringia and Saxony because she married their ruler.

Anne's Family Background
Anne was the oldest daughter of Albert of Austria. He was going to become the Holy Roman Emperor. Her mother was Elisabeth, Queen of Bohemia. Elisabeth was the only child of Sigismund, Holy Roman Emperor.
Anne had a younger brother named Ladislaus. He was born after their father died, which is why he was called "the Posthumous." Ladislaus became King of Bohemia and later King of Hungary when he was very young.
Anne also had a younger sister, Elisabeth. Her sister later became the Queen of Poland and Grand Duchess of Lithuania.
Marriage and Titles
On June 2, 1446, Anne married William "the Brave" of Saxony. William was the Landgrave of Thuringia. A Landgrave was a type of count who ruled a large area of land. William was a younger son of Frederick I "the Warlike" of Saxony.
Because Anne was the Duchess of Luxembourg, William became the Duke of Luxembourg in 1457. This happened after Anne's brother, Ladislaus, died without any children.
Challenges in Luxembourg
Even though Anne had rights to Luxembourg, another powerful ruler, Philip III, Duke of Burgundy, also claimed the land. This led to disagreements and fights.
William found it hard to keep control of Luxembourg because of attacks from Burgundy. In 1469, he decided it was too difficult to hold onto the land. He then went back to his lands in Thuringia. However, Anne had already passed away by this time.
Anne's Daughters
Anne and William had two daughters who survived:
- Margaret of Thuringia (1449 – July 13, 1501): She married John II, Elector of Brandenburg. Her children and grandchildren became important rulers. They were Electors of Brandenburg, then Kings of Prussia, and later German Emperors.
- Katharina of Thuringia (1453 – July 10, 1534): She married Duke Henry II of Münsterberg. She also has many descendants, especially among the noble families in Bohemia.
